The board of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) has approved two nominees to run for election as chairperson at a meeting in London last week.

Either Edward Asscher, the founder of Royal Asscher Diamond Company, former head of the World Diamond Council (WDC) and vice chair of the RJC, or Dave Meleski, CEO of Warren Buffett-owned Richline Group, will succeed David Bouffard in the role. The head of corporate affairs at Signet announced in December he would step down from both roles. He was chair of RJC for six years.

“Both candidates would bring tremendous amounts of industry knowledge and experience to the position,” Bouffard said Friday.

Voting for the new chair will open on Monday and run through February 29. The RJC will announce the new chair at its annual general meeting on March 4.
