The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) has elected Edward Asscher to its executive committee as vice chair and appointed 10 members to serve on dedicated forums.
The RJC chose the representatives at its annual general meeting on June 9, it said Tuesday.
“RJC’s strength comes from the engagement of our 1,700 committed members, a deeply experienced board and executive leadership team, and a shared belief in building sustainable, responsible business practices across our industry,” said David Bouffard, RJC chairman. “These newly elected leaders, working with a highly talented set of existing board members, will accelerate our efforts through diverse perspectives and deep knowledge.”
Those elected to serve as executive committee officers were:
- Edward Asscher of Royal Asscher — vice chair.
- Udi Sheintal of the World Diamond Council (WDC) — honorary secretary.
- Feriel Zerouki of De Beers — reelected as honorary treasurer.
Election results for RJC member forum representatives were:
- Zara Boldt of Lucara Diamond Corp and Purvi Shah of De Beers to represent the diamond, gold and/or platinum-group metals producer forum.
- Michael Steinmetz of Leo Schachter Diamonds to represent the diamond-trader and/or cutter-and-polisher forum.
- Philip Reisert of C. Hafner was reelected to represent the gold and platinum-group metals trader, refiner, or hedger forum.
- Colleen Rooney of Signet Jewelers and Reout Kallati of Kallati International to represent the retailer forum.
- Kareena Shahani of IGI India and Rajesh Neelakanta from Sequel Secure Logistics to represent the service-industries forum.
- Gaetano Cavalieri of the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) and Bernadette Pinet Couq of Union Française de la Bijouterie, Joaillerie, Orfèvrerie, des Pierres et Perles (BJOP) to represent the trade-association forum.
Board members and officers will work closely with RJC executive director Melanie Grant and her management team.
