Lucapa Diamond Company has unearthed a 180.87-carat diamond from its Lulo mine in Angola, the third largest it has ever recovered from the deposit.

The miner found the type IIa stone on June 30, it said Thursday. It marks the 37th diamond over 100 carats since the company began mining at Lulo in 2012.

The new discovery is the second of that magnitude so far this year. In February, Lucapa retrieved a 150-carat, white, type IIa diamond from Lulo.

Lucapa also owns the high-value Mothae mine in Lesotho, as well as the Brooking project in Australia and the Orapa Area F project in Botswana. In 2021, it acquired Australia’s Merlin mine, for which it expects to have its first feasibility study completed in the second quarter of this year.
