Gem Trade Association (AGTA) hosted its Spectrum Awards 2013. Now in its 29th year, the competition also includes the Cutting Edge Awards, which honor creativity in lapidary arts. This year, the competition debuted the Women’s Jewelry Association (WJA)
Gem Diva Award. The category was open to all women who entered the Spectrum contest.
The competition was judged in New York City by Candace Edelman, sales manager/ stylist, Alex Sepkus;Jennifer Heebner, senior editor, JCK Magazine; Abby Huhtanen, fine jewelry buyer, Bergdorf Goodman; Kiwon Jang, lapidarist and Kimberly McDonald, designer. Judges reviewed entries on overall beauty, wearability, innovative design, effective use of materials, quality of gemstones, quality of workmanship, broad-base consumer appeal and potential to generate positive publicity for natural colored gemstones. All entries were on view for editors and stylists during a recent open house at a loft in New York City’s Greenwich Village.
