Lucapa Names Nick Selby Managing Director

Lucapa Diamond Company has appointed Nick Selby as its permanent managing director following his two-month stint as interim chief.

Selby first joined the miner in 2014 as chief operating officer and was promoted to executive director of operations three years later, Lucapa said Thursday. He began his career in the industry working with De Beers, spending 19 years in a variety of technical roles. In 2005, he joined Gem Diamonds, where he established diamond projects in several countries.

Lucapa first announced Selby as interim CEO in July, when longtime managing director Stephen Wetherall decided to step down. At the time, the company said Selby would maintain the role while they searched for a permanent replacement.

The new company head said he was “delighted to take on the role of CEO and managing director as Lucapa’s mining operations increase production and operational efficiencies, and [as] the company advances the search for the primary sources of the exceptional high-quality diamonds being recovered at [the Lulo mine].”
