Late US Senator’s Diamond Ring Fetches over $100K at Bonhams

This week’s Bonhams auction of late US Senator Dianne Feinstein’s personal collection surpassed expectations, totaling nearly $1.9 million — more than twice the estimated sum.  

Leading the Tuesday sale in Los Angeles was Feinstein’s jewelry collection, which brought in more than half a million dollars. The standout piece was a platinum and diamond ring that fetched $108,450, well over its high estimate of $65,000. 

Another strong performer was the senator’s California State Flower brooch in 14-karat bicolor gold and diamonds, which went for $19,200 — 24 times its $800 upper price tag. 

A jade necklace with a gold and diamond clasp flew past its $1,200 upper estimate for a total of $15,360, while a necklace and ear clips by Angela Cummings for Tiffany & Co. more than tripled the lot’s high estimate. The 18-karat-gold set featured a rose-petal motif and sold for $10,880.  

“This turnout is a testament to the profound influence Senator Feinstein had in her home state of California. We’re proud to have hosted this auction to celebrate the life and career of a remarkable stateswoman,” said Victoria R. Gray, Bonhams deputy chairman of trusts and estates for North America. 

While this sale also featured artworks, furniture and other items, a sale focusing solely on additional pieces of Feinstein’s jewelry is running online through October 15.
