RAPAPORT… The Cupio™ carries a worldwide patent and trademark, both of which were registered in 2004 as part of KP Sanghvi’s ongoing quest to develop a new diamond cut with better brilliance and fire than a princess. The unique six-sided cut was launched in 2005 in the United States, Japan and England. Recently, it debuted in India.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND CUTTING ISSUES
Cupio is cut for maximum brilliance. It scores higher than most princess cut diamonds in the light return index tests performed. A brilliant hexagonal diamond, it has 73 facets: 25 on the top and 48 in the pavilion. It is available from VS1 to SI2 clarity and G to I color in sizes from 0.20 points to 1 carat.
MARKETS AND MARKETING
Cupio is sold as a loose diamond as well as in finished jewelry. The company has also created a proprietary setting for the stone and plans to sell this as a complete piece of jewelry. Retailers who plan to buy Cupio loose will be offered assistance in designing Cupio jewelry.
The focus of marketing and selling of the Cupio is on well-entrenched markets in the U.S., Europe, Japan and other potentially growing markets like India, the Middle East and China. Cupio is a branded diamond that is part of a B2B program. Retailers must be one of the top retailers in their area. As a channel partner, they will have to give prominence to Cupio within their stores through branding and in-store activity. For the U.S., the company has developed a proprietary setting and is planning to offer region-specific exclusivity with some retailers.
KP Sanghvi also plans to advertise in trade publications to support the product. Channel partners can manage their media activity and above-the-line activities as desired to reach their target audience. Retailers are provided with advertising templates for black and white ads for print campaigns, color ads,outdoor ads and a radio script. In-store promotional materials include collaterals and extensive advertising artwork for tent cards, postcards, posters, retail brochures and consumer brochures. Cupio is a certified program and comes with special packaging.
