GIA is taking all reports digital by 2025. Retailers throughout the industry have offered positive feedback on this initiative, which will be accompanied by advanced technology that increases the security of a diamond’s identity.
This digital evolution consists of three dynamic elements:
Fully Digital Reports: This evolution begins with the digital launch of GIA’s most popular report, GIA Diamond Dossier®, in January 2023. The new digital version of the report will deliver the same trusted diamond information in a format that is more secure and convenient than ever before. All GIA reports will be accessible via the new GIA App and Report Check on GIA.edu.
The New GIA App: This fully reimagined app powers GIA’s digital evolution. It concentrates GIA’s diamond knowledge and resources all in one place by offering 4Cs videos and articles, point-of-sale tools, and report storage and lookup. It will also power the new GIA Match iD™ inscription matching service, greatly increasing the security of diamond data.
The GIA Match iD™: This innovative instrument is engineered to pair seamlessly with the new GIA App. It captures a diamond’s inscription image and links the diamond to its unique GIA report in the GIA cloud using proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

The conversion of all GIA reports into digital form will save 20 tons of paper and 18.5 tons of plastic each year and reduce transportation-related carbon emissions. This evolution will protect the very planet that offers the gems GIA so passionately researches and grades.
Retailer and Wholesaler Feedback
Industry professionals have responded with enthusiasm, indicating that digital reports will help them save time and resources. They will no longer have to file and track hundreds of GIA paper reports. Orphaned reports – reports that get separated from their stones – are a pain point to many in the industry. When left behind after a stone has been sold or shipped to another store, they can cause confusion and clutter up filing. Also, when reports get damaged or lost, diamonds have to be resubmitted for a new report, a process that can be costly and time-consuming. With the new GIA App, industry professionals and consumers will have all their reports in one place. Their reports can be named, saved and sent to business partners and friends with a touch of a finger. They can also be saved to Apple Wallet and scanned with QR codes.
Fueled by GIA’s mission to protect the public trust, this initiative supports the trade and enhances consumer protection by increasing safeguards for a diamond’s identity. Now, both the trade and consumers will be able to experience diamonds like never before, accessing secure diamond data anytime, anywhere, and conduct business more seamlessly.
