RAPAPORT… Drawing upon the cultural heritage and natural landscape of his native Haiti as well as his many travels, designer Ralph Lataillade has created the Lumakara Jewelry Company. In today’s world, image is all-important and the jewelry one wears is a part of the statement one makes. With that in mind, third-generation jeweler Caroline Stanley and certified image consultant and jewelry designer Cynthia Sliwa co-authored the book, Jewelry Savvy: What Every Jewelry Wearer Should Know. The 224-page book combines product knowledge with tips on how to wear, buy and care for jewelry. Showcasing images from Stuller, Inc. and Landau, Inc., the book is intended for jewelry retailers to use with their customers. The authors suggest that Jewelry Savvy be used in-store for sale to customers, as a training guide for associates, as a customer gift or for use during a store event that focuses on jewelry wardrobing. The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, is the recipient of jewelry artisan Barbara Berk’s S-Curve Brooch. Donated to the museum’s permanent collection by jewelry historian Elyse Zorn Karlin, the piece was created by Berk using her handcrafted technique of “weaving” 18-karat gold into “fabric” and then shaping it into three-dimensional forms. The curved brooch is held in place by a stickpin featuring a 14.20-carat citrine carved by Sherris Cottier Shank.
