The Hope Diamond, perhaps the world’s most famous precious stone, was the topic of our discussion with Dr. Jeffrey Post, the Smithsonian Institution’s top mineralogist for more than three decades.
Post joined Rapaport Senior Analyst Joshua Freedman to talk about the stories behind gemstones and his favorite moments from a 40-year career at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC.

On this episode of the Rapaport Diamond Podcast, he related some of the nights he spent investigating the Hope Diamond and discussed how the natural-diamond industry should combat competition from lab-grown.
