Michael Hill CEO Daniel Bracken died suddenly on Wednesday at the age of 57 after an adverse reaction to medical treatment for an underlying condition.

Bracken joined the Australia-based jeweler in 2018, replacing Phil Taylor, who stepped down due to health issues. Michael Hill chose him for the position due to his global experience and strong commitment to creating engaged customer-centric brands, the company said at the time.

“Daniel was a passionate retailer, an innovative and strategic thinker and an inspiring leader, who transformed the Michael Hill group into the company that it is today,” the company said Wednesday. “We thank Daniel for his outstanding leadership and dedication to the Michael Hill group and our people over the past seven years. He will be dearly missed.”

The company will announce its plans for interim leadership while it searches for a replacement in due course, it added.
