Star Diamond Corporation has hired Nelson Karun as a diamond specialist. He will be responsible for providing the company with detailed information on rough sorting and valuation.

Karun has been working for Star Diamond as a consultant in the same capacity since 2021, the miner said Tuesday. He has been in the industry for over 20 years, having held positions with Dominion Diamond Mines, where he was director of diamond sorting and valuation. In that role, he was in charge of controlling annual production of approximately 10 million carats.

During his career, Karun provided sorting and valuation services to Canada’s Saskatchewan Research Council and worked for Stornoway Diamonds on the Renard mine. He also has experience with appraising exploration diamond parcels for feasibility assessments for future production.

“We are very pleased to welcome Nelson to our technical team, and his depth of experience in diamond sorting and valuation adds a new dimension to our in-house skills,” said George Read, Star Diamond’s senior vice president of corporate development. “Since 2021, Nelson has participated in detailed diamond breakage and sorting exercises of diamonds from the Star and Orion South kimberlites. Consequently, he has already developed an intimate knowledge of the true character of our Star and Orion South diamond-evaluation parcels. His first task is to complete a detailed valuation exercise on the Star and Orion South diamond parcels, as this will be an integral part of our planned revised mineral-resource estimate for these kimberlites.”
