35ct. Sapphire Ring Rakes In Nearly $10M at Christie’s

A sapphire and diamond ring was the top seller at the most recent Christie’s auction in Hong Kong, where it fetched HKD 74.7 million ($9.5 million).

Called the Regent Kashmir, the ring contains an antique cushion-shaped, 35.09-carat Kashmir sapphire, while the band is set with round diamonds. The final selling price fell within the piece’s price range, according to Christie’s. It had an upper estimate of HKD 95 million ($12.1 million).

In total, the May 27 Magnificent Jewels auction garnered HKD 376.2 million ($48 million), with many lots selling above their estimates. Pieces by important designers, including Cartier, Tiffany & Co., and Bulgari, also performed well.

Ring featuring an antique cushion brilliant-cut Burmese sapphire center stone bracketed by heart-shaped and round diamonds at Christie's image — Another sapphire ring, this one bearing an antique cushion brilliant-cut, 28.08-carat Burmese sapphire center stone bracketed by heart-shaped and round diamonds, more than doubled its HKD 8 million ($1 million) high estimate to bring in HKD 19.7 million ($2.5 million).

Cartier necklace featuring a pear modified brilliant-cut fancy-intense-orangey-pink diamond, a cut-cornered rectangular modified brilliant-cut fancy-intense-pink diamond and variously colored button-shaped natural pearls at Christie's image — This Cartier necklace contains a pear modified brilliant-cut, 4.62-carat, fancy-intense-orangey-pink, VVS2-clarity diamond, a cut-cornered rectangular modified brilliant-cut, 1.12-carat, fancy-intense-pink, VVS1-clarity diamond and variously colored button-shaped natural pearls. It sold within its estimated range for HKD 14.9 million ($1.9 million).

Ring with an octagonal step-cut Colombian emerald at Christie's image — Beating its upper presale price was this ring with an octagonal step-cut, 10.36-carat Colombian emerald. It fetched HKD 13.1 million ($1.7 million), against a top price of HKD 9.8 million ($1.3 million).

Unmounted round brilliant-cut D-flawless diamond at Christie's image — An unmounted round brilliant-cut, 20.02-carat, D-flawless diamond hit the middle of its price range to go for HKD 12.5 million ($1.6 million).

Moussaieff ring featuring an emerald-cut, fancy-purplish-red, I1-clarity diamond within a surround of oval-shaped Paraiba tourmalines at Christie's image — Moussaieff is the creator of this ring, which has an emerald-cut, 1.02-carat, fancy-purplish-red, I1-clarity diamond within a surround of oval-shaped Paraiba tourmalines, designed as a flower. It crept past its lower estimate to sell for HKD 10.1 million ($1.3 million).

Earrings featuring octagonal step-cut Colombian emeralds, as well as heart brilliant-cut internally flawless diamonds at Christie's image — Christie’s sold these earrings for HKD 9.3 million ($1.2 million), above their HKD 8.5 million ($1.1 million) high estimate. They contain octagonal step-cut Colombian emeralds weighing 7.03 and 6.92 carats, as well as heart brilliant-cut, D-color, internally flawless diamonds of 2.32 and 2.14 carats.

Oval-cut Burmese rubies earrings at Christie's image — These earrings have oval-cut Burmese rubies weighing 5.09 and 5.02 carats. They sold within their estimated range to reach HKD 8.2 million ($1 million).

Brilliant-cut, 6.76-carat, D-color, internally flawless diamond from the Golconda mines at Christie's image — An old mine brilliant-cut, 6.76-carat, D-color, internally flawless diamond from the Golconda mines surpassed its HKD 5.5 million ($701,682) to garner HKD 8.1 million ($1 million).
