News:
Market steady. Round prices stable, with select categories firming amid tight supply. US wholesale quiet during extended July 4 holiday period and start of summer. Round, 1 to 1.99 ct., F-J, VS-SI diamonds showing early signs of demand recovery. De Beers significantly cuts rough prices at July sight, especially for goods under 0.75 ct. (3-grainers), to align with market; miner trims sightholder list from 70 to 45-50 at first sale under new contract. India’s Titan fiscal 1Q jewelry sales +39% YOY, with mid-30s growth percentage for studded pieces. Three candidates running for WFDB president at World Diamond Congress in Singapore (July 12-15).
Fancies:
Long fancy shapes such as Ovals, Marquises and Emeralds doing better than rounds in 2 ct. and larger. High-quality Marquises, long Radiants and long Cushions in short supply. Marquise most expensive fancy shape. Long Cushions easy to sell and trading at 20% to 25% premium over square ones. Antique cuts and styles hot. Solid US market for elongated Ovals of good shape and quality in D-I, VS-SI categories. Very well-cut fancy shapes difficult to find and commanding premiums. Fancies with bad proportions illiquid.
Country Comments
United States
Wholesale market quiet during extended July 4 holiday period and start of summer season. Strong advance orders of round and fancy-shape, D-F, IF-VS diamonds for high-end designers. Positive trend emerging in round and fancy, 1 to 1.99 ct., F-J, VS-SI goods, broadening demand that had been concentrated in 2 ct. and larger.
Belgium
Market seasonally quiet. Prices firm. Fewer goods available than before, but demand has eased, keeping conditions balanced. Shortages most evident in larger sizes and collection goods. Marquises performing well. Steady activity in 0.30 ct. and 2 to 3 ct. categories.
Israel
Market quiet. Many US clients on vacation. Ongoing uncertainty about security situation.
India
Trade in seasonal lull, with improvement likely ahead of India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) show in Mumbai (August 5 to 10). Buyers showing greater confidence; suppliers firmer on asking prices. Shortage of well-made goods boosting premiums. Round, 0.50 ct., D-I, VS-SI1 demand strengthening; rounds of 2 ct. and larger firming in select categories. Some traders resuming inventory-buying. Long fancies (ovals, pears, marquises and long cushions) popular in 2 ct.-plus, D-I, VS-SI ranges. Lower-quality commercial goods increasingly selling in parcels without individual certificates.
Hong Kong
Market order-driven. Diamonds positioned as luxury purchases for investment and emotional significance, with synthetics filling lower end. Strongest demand in 2 ct. and larger long fancies, with supply of marquises tight. Bridal segment focusing on round, G-J, VS-SI, GIA-graded goods. Chinese consumer market weak.
