Christie’s will feature pieces from Parisian jewelry maison Mazarin in New York from September 25 to 29.
Former auction experts and gemologists Louise de Rothschild and Keagan Ramsamy founded the fine-jewelry house in 2022 in Paris. The preview of the jewels marks a symbolic return to the company that supported the founders’ expertise – since de Rothschild is a former Christie’s specialist – as well as the maison’s first foray into the US, it added.
De Rothschild spent five years at Christie’s in London prior to joining the jewelry department of a leading Parisian auction house, where Ramsamy had been the director for a decade. Drawing on their experience studying, appraising and handling exceptional jewels, the pair established Mazarin to create contemporary pieces informed by jewelry history.
The maison takes its name from Cardinal Mazarin, the renowned 17th-century collector whose notable diamonds became part of the French Crown Jewels. His interest in exceptional gemstones and their place in jewelry history has influenced the founders’ approach, with the pieces intended to reflect the importance of heritage, history and craftsmanship.
The centerpiece of Mazarin is the elephant – a symbol of strength, wisdom and enduring memory. The motif appears throughout the brand’s collection, from the iconic cuff bracelet to Eboris, a line inspired by tusks.
“Mazarin was born from our shared belief that jewelry is not simply an object of adornment, but a form of cultural expression,” said the founders. “Presenting the maison at Christie’s is a defining moment for us, as it places our work in dialogue with one of the world’s foremost communities of collectors.”
The maison will also debut Voltige, its newest collection of pendants, in New York. Created as contemporary talismans, each piece represents a mindset – positive, balance or creativity.
