Sotheby’s Scores $34M at Hong Kong Sale

Rubies nabbed the top three spots at the most recent jewelry auction at Sotheby’s in Hong Kong, where several pieces sold way above their upper estimates.

The top item at the sale was a Mauboussin necklace with tumbled rubies and ruby beads, and brilliant, old European-cut, square and baguette diamonds. It brought in HKD 16 million ($2 million), beating its HKD 11 million ($1.4 million) high price, according to the Sotheby’s website. In total, the September 17 High Jewelry sale raked in HKD 267.5 million ($34.1 million).

Over 180 lots were on offer at the auction, including pieces from well-known design houses such as Cartier, Harry Winston, Chaumet and Kat Florence.
