A Cartier sapphire ring fetched EUR 205,400 ($230,401) at a recent Bonhams auction in Paris, more than tripling its high estimate.
The jewel centers an oval-cut, 11.50-carat Madagascan sapphire between two pear-cut diamonds. The ring beat its EUR 60,000 ($67,303) top price at the October 29 Fine Jewellery, Paris sale, the auction house said last week.
Bonhams sold more than 90 lots, with several jewels beating their presale estimates. Pieces from well-known designers such as Chaumet, Bulgari, and Van Cleef & Arpels also went under the hammer.
“The results of our Paris Fine Jewellery sale reflect the enduring appeal of exceptional gemstones and jewels of distinctive design and provenance,” said Mathilde Rispe, Bonhams’s jewelry specialist for France.
