Signet Jewelers has agreed to acquire New York-based The Clear Cut, an online-focused retailer of natural-diamond jewelry.
Signet, the US’s largest jewelry retailer, will integrate the company into Blue Nile, the e-tailer it bought in 2022, Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) reported Thursday.
The two businesses have signed a “definitive agreement,” with the deal expected to close “in a matter of days,” according to WWD. No financial terms are public yet.
Olivia Landau, The Clear Cut’s CEO and cofounder, confirmed the WWD report to Rapaport News on Thursday.
The news follows Signet’s repositioning of Blue Nile earlier this year to focus more heavily on natural diamonds.
One goal of the transaction is to bring The Clear Cut’s personalized service and gemological expertise to Blue Nile, WWD quoted Signet chief operating and financial officer Joan Hilson as saying. These features simplify the process for consumers shopping for engagement rings and other high-value diamond jewelry, the report continued.
“39% of Blue Nile’s bridal transactions in 2025 were $10,000 or above, and with The Clear Cut acquisition, our aim is to grow that,” WWD cited Hilson as saying.
In the most recent Rapaport Intelligence Report, Landau said The Clear Cut’s average order value had risen to $30,000 between 2023 and 2025.
The acquisition is not financially material to Signet’s business, Hilson added, according to WWD. The Clear Cut name will be maintained, she noted.
“Bringing on proven expertise via The Clear Cut team will allow us to accelerate our natural-diamond leadership and invest in a more elevated, differentiated customer experience,” Hilson added in a statement to Rapaport News. “We recently shared our intent to up-tier Blue Nile as part of our broader Grow Brand Love strategy, with a clear focus on natural diamonds and attracting a higher‑value customer. As we looked at what it takes to do that well, it became clear that we needed to move quickly and thoughtfully to build the right capabilities behind the brand.”
On closing, Landau will become Blue Nile’s vice president and will be president of The Clear Cut. Her cofounder and husband, Kyle Simon, will become vice president of Blue Nile and chief operating officer of The Clear Cut.
The announcement came on the second day of the higher-end Luxury show in Las Vegas. The more diverse JCK Las Vegas exhibition starts on Friday. Both end on Monday.
