In the latest video episode of the Rapaport Diamond Podcast, Roy Safit, CEO of the Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF), delves into the colored-diamond market and what’s driving price trends.
The slowdown in Chinese demand and sanctions on Russia have put pressure on the sector, Safit explained in conversation with Rapaport’s Joshua Freedman. Russia is an important producer of fancy-color diamonds, especially yellows. Still, he noted, the organization’s Fancy Color Diamond Index held relatively steady even when Group of Seven (G7) import restrictions went into effect in early 2024.
The episode, recorded in February — before US tariffs shook up the market — also looked at the investment value of fancy-color diamonds, the role of the FCRF, and how its price index works.
“There has been quite a bit of resilience demonstrated by this asset class over the years, and, therefore, there is an allure to potential investors to participate in it,” he said.
