Christie’s sold two blue-diamond rings for more than $8 million each at its recent New York sale, including the Azure Blue.
The Azure Blue, a pear modified brilliant-cut, 31.62-carat, internally flawless, VVS1-clarity, type IIb diamond, brought in $8.4 million. It sold within its presale estimate at the June 9 Magnificent Jewels auction, Christie’s said Tuesday.
In total, the sale garnered $49.7 million, with all 143 lots finding buyers. Blue sapphires, as well as other colored gemstones, were prominent in the sale. Jewels from famous design houses such as Graff, Cartier and Bulgari also went on the auction block.
“From rare blue diamonds to extraordinary sapphires and rubies, the strength of demand across categories — particularly colored stones — underscores the global enthusiasm for jewels of beauty, rarity, and provenance,” said Claibourne Poindexter, head of jewelry for the Americas region at Christie’s.
