Sotheby’s Rakes In Nearly $8M from Online Jewelry Auction

Sotheby’s garnered $7.8 million from its recent online Fine Jewels sale, where several diamond pieces in the top 10 outstripped their estimates.

Colored gemstones and signed jewels by designers including Chaumet, Cartier, Bulgari and Graff also performed well. Bidding started on November 29 and closed on December 12, with the items on offer showcased to the public in New York.

Here are the top 10 jewels:

This ring, featuring an oval-shaped, 4.69-carat, bezel-set Burmese ruby, was the top seller at the auction, bringing in $163,800, within its estimate.
A ring by Chaumet went for $138,600, well above its $80,000 high estimate. The jewel is set with a round-cornered rectangular brilliant-cut, 6.37-carat, E-color, SI2-clarity diamond center stone between two baguette diamonds.
Sotheby’s sold this pear-shaped, 5.03-carat, G-color, VS1-clarity diamond ring with pear-shaped accent diamonds for $126,000, within its $100,000 to $150,000 estimate.
A Cartier ring featuring a sugarloaf cabochon Burmese sapphire weighing 14.77 carats — as well as 1.60 carats of diamonds — fetched $113,400. It carried a presale estimate of $100,000 to $150,000.
This emerald-cut, 6.17-carat, H-color, VS1-clarity diamond ring with triangle-shaped side stones achieved $107,100, within its presale price range.
A diamond ring by Bulgari with a round, 5-carat diamond, mounted with triangle-shaped, trapeze-cut and baguette diamonds weighing a total of 4.65 carats, also exceeded its estimate. The piece, known as a Trombino ring, realized $107,100 against a $100,000 high price tag.
This marquise-shaped, 4.01-carat, D-color, VVS2-clarity diamond ring by Cartier garnered $107,100, above its $100,000 top estimate.
This ring, containing a round, 4.06-carat, G-color, VVS2-clarity diamond, beat its $70,000 high presale estimate to fetch $88,200.
A necklace bearing 72 graduated round diamonds weighing approximately 33.65 carats outstripped its $70,000 upper price. The piece, which has E- to G-color, VS2-clarity to internally flawless diamonds, went for $81,900.
Another piece that surpassed its estimate was an emerald-cut, 8.24-carat, M-color, VVS2-clarity diamond ring. It brought in $75,600, over its $70,000 high presale price.
