Sotheby’s Jewelry Sale Rakes In Nearly $14M

RAPAPORT… Sotheby’s garnered HKD 105.5 million ($13.5 million) from its Important Jewels sale in Hong Kong, with a four-piece jadeite and diamond collection nabbing the top spot.

The set, which includes a fringe necklace with oval jadeite cabochons and pear-shaped and brilliant-cut diamonds, fetched HKD 18.3 million ($2.3 million), Sotheby’s said last week. A bracelet, a pair of pendant earrings and a ring rounded out the group.

A Chopard ring featuring a cushion-shaped, 10.46-carat Kashmir sapphire and diamonds also made waves at the sale, bringing in HKD 7.7 million ($984,135), well above its high estimate. Another ring, bearing an emerald-cut, 7.36-carat, fancy-vivid-yellow diamond flanked by two trapeze-cut diamonds, achieved HKD 4.7 million ($596,330), just under its upper estimate.

Other notable items included an emerald, sapphire, spinel and diamond dragonfly brooch by Van Cleef & Arpels, which sold for HKD 3.5 million ($452,238), just below its high estimate. A cushion-shaped, 25.18-carat sapphire and diamond ring by Cartier fetched HKD 3.4 million ($436,086), beating expectations. Meanwhile a bracelet set with nine step-cut Colombian emeralds weighing a total of 19.92 carats, surrounded by diamonds in a floral pattern, went for HKD 3.3 million ($419,948), within its presale estimate.
