Sotheby’s presented a collection of 56 lots by top designers for the inaugural jewelry auction at its new location in New York’s Breuer building, with the total nearing $14 million.
The star of A Legacy of Elegance: Jewels from an Exceptional Collection was a Boucheron laurel wreath necklace from around 1888. The piece featured seven cushion-cut Burmese and Thai rubies, along with old mine-, old European- and single-cut diamonds. It sold for $1.3 million — within its estimated range — at the December 8 sale, according to Sotheby’s.
The auction also featured items from top designers such as Suzanne Belperron, JAR, René Boivin and Cartier.
