A sapphire ring will be the star of an upcoming jewelry auction at Christie’s in Hong Kong, carrying a price tag of up to HKD 95 million ($12.2 million).
The piece, which features an antique cushion-shaped, 35.09-carat, royal blue Kashmir sapphire and round diamonds, will lead the May 27 Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels sale, according to Christie’s. The ring previously cracked the top three at Christie’s Magnificent Jewels in Geneva in 2015, where it smashed its high estimate to bring in $7.4 million. It also featured in the auction house’s New York Magnificent Jewels sale in 2000.
In total, Christie’s will present 129 lots in Hong Kong, with colored diamonds comprising half of the top 10 items on offer. Pieces with no reserve price as well as those from well-known designers, including Cartier, Harry Winston, Bulgari, and Tiffany & Co., will also go under the hammer.

A ring with an oval brilliant-cut, 13.22-carat Burmese ruby and half-moon diamond side stones has a top estimate of HKD 80 million ($10.3 million). This ring has a pear brilliant-cut, 4.08-carat, fancy-vivid-purple-pink, internally flawless diamond center stone in a diamond-set band. It has a high estimate of HKD 58 million ($7.4 million). Christie’s will offer these earrings bearing cushion-shaped Kashmir sapphires weighing 9.18 and 8.33 carats, suspended from old European brilliant-cut diamonds weighing 2.21 and 2.10 carats, and surrounded by rose-cut and round diamonds. They have an upper price of HKD 28 million ($3.6 million). This ring is set with a pear modified brilliant-cut, 3.48-carat, fancy-deep-blue, internally flawless center stone with round pink and white diamonds along the band. It is estimated at up to HKD 24 million ($3.1 million). Cartier is the maker of this necklace, which has a pear modified brilliant-cut, 4.62-carat, fancy-intense-orangey-pink diamond, a cut-cornered modified brilliant-cut, 1.12 carat, fancy-intense-pink diamond and variously colored natural pearls, as well as baguette and round diamonds. It is expected to bring in up to HKD 18 million ($2.3 million). A jewelry set by designer Asprey, comprising a necklace and earrings with round brilliant-cut and round modified brilliant-cut, fancy-vivid-yellow diamonds weighing 0.25 to 3.40 carats and round white diamonds, has a top price of HKD 18 million ($2.3 million).Another necklace and earrings set, this one with oval and antique cushion brilliant-cut Burmese rubies weighing a total of 94.75 carats and 36.13 carats of variously cut diamonds, has an upper presale price of HKD 15 million ($1.9 million). This unmounted round brilliant-cut, 20.02-carat, D-flawless diamond carries a top estimate of HKD 15 million ($1.9 million). Moussaieff designed this floral ring, featuring an emerald-cut, 1.02-carat, fancy-purplish-red, I1-clarity diamond in the middle of eight oval-shaped Paraiba tourmalines, with a round diamond-studded band. Christie’s expects it to sell for up to HKD 15 million ($1.9 million).
