A ring bearing a 5.72-carat sapphire stole the show at the recent Sotheby’s auction in London, where it sold for GBP 512,000 ($688,112), almost three times its upper price.

The jewel centers a cushion-shaped Kashmir sapphire in a frame comprising eight brilliant-cut diamonds. It surpassed its GBP 180,000 ($242,080) high estimate at the June 3 Fine Jewelry sale, according to the auction house’s website.

In total, the sale garnered GBP 4.9 million ($6.6 million). The auction house found buyers for lots from well-known design houses such as Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari, and Cartier.
