A pair of ruby and diamond earrings raked in more than 10 times its high estimate at a recent Christie’s sale in London, fetching GBP 756,000 ($1 million) against a predicted GBP 70,000 ($94,748).
The cushion-shaped, 6.83- and 6.36-carat Burmese rubies suspended from circular- and single-cut diamonds led the June 6 Jewels Online: The London Edit sale, according to the auction house’s website. In total, the sale brought in GBP 5.5 million ($7.4 million).
Eight of the top 10 pieces realized well over their estimated prices. In addition, the auction house offered jewels from Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari, and Graff.
