Ruby and Diamond Earrings Smash Estimate at Christie’s

A pair of ruby and diamond earrings raked in more than 10 times its high estimate at a recent Christie’s sale in London, fetching GBP 756,000 ($1 million) against a predicted GBP 70,000 ($94,748). 

The cushion-shaped, 6.83- and 6.36-carat Burmese rubies suspended from circular- and single-cut diamonds led the June 6 Jewels Online: The London Edit sale, according to the auction house’s website. In total, the sale brought in GBP 5.5 million ($7.4 million). 

Eight of the top 10 pieces realized well over their estimated prices. In addition, the auction house offered jewels from Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari, and Graff.

This necklace features a series of graduating old cushion-shaped diamonds, including a 10.28-carat center stone, with bell flower-shaped links of old-, circular- and single-cut diamonds. It sold for GBP 327,600 ($443,421), beating its presale estimate of GBP 280,000 ($378,992). 
Pair of heart-shaped diamond earrings at Christie's image
A pair of heart-shaped diamond earrings weighing 12.35 and 12.22 carats, hanging from pear, marquise, square step-cut and tapered baguette-cut diamonds, went under the hammer for GBP 189,000 ($255,933), above the lot’s GBP 100,000 ($135,414) presale price.

This Dior necklace has three pear-shaped, D-color diamonds weighing 4.19, 2.20 and 1.06 carats, and a cushion modified brilliant-cut, 1.20-carat, E-color diamond. It fetched GBP 163,800 ($221,809), surpassing its GBP 80,000 ($108,332) high estimate.  
De Grisogono emerald and diamond necklace at Christie's image
A De Grisogono flexible necklace sold for GBP 151,200 ($204,745), just above its high estimate. It features circular-cut emeralds, and circular-, pear- and marquise-cut diamonds. Each band is detachable and can be worn separately.

Christie’s sold this Graff ring bearing an oval brilliant-cut, 4.05-carat, light-pink, VS1-clarity diamond center stone between two half-moon diamonds. It went for GBP 138,600 ($187,684), below its GBP 150,000 ($203,122) low estimate.

This antique brooch features a cushion-shaped, 16.51-carat Burmese spinel surrounded by cascading lily-of-the-valley motifs and old-cut diamonds. It beat its GBP 60,000 ($81,249) presale high price to make GBP 138,600 ($187,684).

This Cartier Panthère wristwatch surpassed its upper estimate of GBP 90,000 ($121,860), garnering GBP 119,700 ($162,113). The bracelet contains black onyx beads and circular-cut diamonds, and a panther featuring an onyx nose and pear-cut emerald eyes.

These earrings contain round brilliant-cut diamonds — one a 5-carat, G, VS2-clarity stone, and the other a 5.04-carat, H, VS1 diamond. They achieved GBP 113,400 ($153,544), above their GBP 90,000 ($121,860) presale price.
