Rubies and Colored Diamonds Dominate Phillips Sale

A pair of ruby and diamond ear clips is set to fetch up to $1.6 million at an upcoming jewelry auction at Phillips in Hong Kong.

Each clip contains an oval ruby — weighing 10.77 and 9.99 carats, respectively — with a surround of brilliant-cut diamonds. The lot is one of a number of ruby and diamond pieces that will feature at the October 3 Hong Kong Jewels sale, according to the auction house’s website.

A ring bearing an oval brilliant-cut, 7.02-carat ruby surrounded by oval diamonds is expected to realize $1.1 million to $1.5 million.

Phillips will offer a ruby and diamond necklace set with 40 cushion-shaped oval and circular-cut Burmese rubies weighing a total of 54.18 carats, spaced by pear-shaped diamonds. It carries an estimate of $1 million to 1.2 million.

This Van Cleef & Arpels Boreal diamond necklace containing oval and brilliant-cut diamonds — including eight oval stones ranging from 1.48 to 3.24 carats — is predicted to bring in as much as $1.2 million.

A ring with a rectangular modified brilliant-cut, 3.81-carat, fancy-grey-blue diamond framed by diamonds of pink and brown tint is estimated at $700,000 to $1 million.

A necklace featuring a pear-shaped, 21.70-carat, fancy-vivid-yellow, VS2-clarity diamond pendant is set to go under the hammer. The piece, which is joined by a double oval-link chain with collet-set diamonds, has a presale price of $650,000 to $900,000.

The auction house will sell a brilliant-cut, 5.03-carat, fancy-vivid-yellow, VVS1-clarity diamond ring for an estimated $500,000 to $770.000. The shoulders and gallery are decorated with brilliant-cut diamonds.

Also going on the block is a ring centering a step-cut, 14.19-carat emerald with a rose-cut, shield-shaped and brilliant-cut diamond surround. It’s expected to achieve between $500,000 and $900,000.

This ring is set with a cut-cornered square modified brilliant cut, 16.08-carat, fancy-vivid-yellow, VVS1 diamond, flanked by two trapezoid diamonds of yellow tint. It has an estimated price range of $450,000 to $640,000.

A cushion-shaped, 10.84-carat alexandrite chrysoberyl, surrounded by pear-shaped diamonds and set in a ring, is expected to sell for $300,000 to $570,000.
