Rapaport Magazine’s Latest Issue: Gemstones, Gold and Hard Data

Our industry trades in beauty, but it’s still a trade. That’s why we’ve dedicated much of the January-February issue of Rapaport Magazine — our first of 2025 — to drilling down into the numbers.

Rapaport has released its annual pricing report, this time in a new format: a digital download available to Rapaport members only. We do, however, have an in-depth analysis of the data in the magazine, evaluating what Rapaport Market Analyst Shimon Gerstensang is calling the diamond industry’s “deepest crisis in history.”

We also take a look at those playing the numbers well. Dubai is on the rise as a serious global diamond hub, investing in infrastructure and industry star power, while Ari Jain of manufacturer House of Diamonds tells us how building a pricing algorithm has helped him beat competitors. On the gold front, jewelry companies share how they are navigating record-high prices, and we investigate how Single Mine Origin (SMO) gold is harnessing the power of commercial mining to boost the availability of ethically sourced metal.

Colored gems are certainly a bright spot in our industry. In this issue, we dive deep into the gemstone market to deliver a report on the trends driving prices and demand, while our colleagues at RapNet share news of a collaboration with the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) to launch colored-gemstone trading on the platform for the first time. We also look at the political disruption in Mozambique and how this, along with a tax hike on emeralds in Zambia, is impacting miner Gemfields. Plus, we offer up some alternative ruby sources

Elsewhere in the issue, we explore the trends of Mocha Mousse gemstones, torque necklaces, gem-studded watches, and jewels that take inspiration from couture fabrics and everyday objects.

We also speak to Stephen Silver president Jared Silver about the jeweler’s new Menlo Park store, meet rising retail star Tyler Moradof of Yafa Signed Jewels, and discover how the charity Gems Keep Giving is helping improve the lives of children in Africa.

And for those of you with an eye on the auction market, we have a 40-page special report on how jewels and gems fared under the gavel in 2024, including an exclusive data section tracking the prices that diamonds fetched.
