The Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ) has inaugurated the Qatar Diamond Exchange (QDE), a new platform for the trade of diamonds and precious stones.
The network creates a new hub for the international diamond industry in Qatar, including a secure trading floor, private negotiation suites, and on-site security and surveillance, QFZ said Sunday. It also provides on-site customs and certification facilities.
In 2021, Qatar became a full member of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS), restating the country’s commitment to the responsible and transparent trade of conflict-free rough diamonds. In 2025, Qatar’s Kimberley Process (KP) framework designated the QFZ as a competent authority and made its free zones the only authorized entry and exit point for rough diamonds. Located in the Ras Bufontas Free Zone, the QDE provides members with a regulated platform for trading, storing, certifying and transacting diamonds, the government organization said.
“The [QDE] represents an important step in Qatar’s efforts to further diversify its economy and strengthen its position as a trusted participant in global diamond trade,” said QFZ CEO Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Faisal Al-Thani. “Through QDE, we are bringing together the full diamond and precious-stones value chain within a single regulated ecosystem.”
Bourse membership is open to diamond traders, manufacturers, cutters and polishers as well as affiliated service providers and industry organizations. It includes access to trading licenses, on-site sorting and independent valuation services, secure vault access and specialist insurance. The exchange will also host a series of rough and polished diamond tenders linking African and Asian producers with buyers in Europe and the Gulf.
