The Qatar Diamond Exchange (QDE) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the diamond bourses in Singapore, Shanghai and Tokyo to create trade and collaboration opportunities among the regions.

The parties signed the agreement at the 41st World Diamond Congress in Singapore, QDE said last week. The MoUs were formalized by the director of the QDE, Ghanim Nasser Al Saadi, and the presidents of each bourse: Fabio Cascapera of the Diamond Exchange of Singapore, Lin Qiang of the Shanghai Diamond Exchange, and Michio Iwasaki of the Tokyo Diamond Exchange.

The partnership creates a framework for the QDE and its partners to strengthen business ties among their respective members, promote commercial relationships and explore further areas of collaboration. The alliances will also support bilateral visits and reciprocal participation in industry events, tenders, auctions, viewings and other activities the exchanges organize or host, the QDE added.

The cooperation aims to improve consumer confidence in natural diamonds and colored gemstones while promoting compliance with recognized industry standards and initiatives, including those of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) and the World Diamond Council’s System of Warranties.

“The partnerships also reinforce Doha’s potential to serve as a trusted gateway connecting Asian diamond markets with the wider international trade, supported by transparency, responsible practices and internationally recognized standards,” said Nasser Al-Saadi.
