Phillips sold a pink-diamond ring for CHF 11.9 million ($13.2 million) at its inaugural Geneva jewelry auction, making it the highlight of the 110-lot event.
The cut-cornered rectangular modified brilliant-cut, 20.19-carat, fancy-intense-pink, VVS1-clarity stone was the fourth-largest of its color ever to appear at auction. The price it achieved at the Geneva Jewels Auction: ONE — which took place Monday — fell within its presale estimate range of CHF 10 million to CHF 15 million ($11.1 million to $16.7 million).
In July, Phillips announced that it would begin holding annual jewelry auctions in the Swiss city, as global sales for the category had been strong.
Here are the other pieces that made the top five at the auction:
This round-cornered rectangular modified brilliant-cut, 54.27-carat, fancy-intense-yellow, internally flawless diamond ring fetched CHF 1.3 million ($1.5 million), within its expected price range.
A ring by designer Fred featuring an oval, 15.60-carat, D-color, VS2, type IIa diamond brought in CHF 889,000 ($988,561), beating its CHF 720,000 ($800,634) upper estimate.
Phillips sold this pair of Sterlé ear clips from the 1960s for CHF 482,600 ($536,542), above the lot’s CHF 450,000 ($500,298) high estimate. Each features a drop-shaped natural pearl — one weighing 23.84 carats and the other 22.88 carats — with brilliant-cut diamond accents, hanging from a marquise- and baguette-diamond surmount.
These earrings by Bulgari contain two sugarloaf cabochon Burmese sapphires weighing 17.74 and 16.66 carats respectively, accented with calibré-cut rubies and baguette diamonds. They went for CHF 444,500 ($494,335), within their presale price range.
