Pandora has opened a new fine-jewelry manufacturing factory in Vietnam, which it says will expand its production capacity by 50%.

The company has invested $150 million in the modern facility in Ho Chi Minh City, the Danish jeweler said Thursday. Pandora expects the new factory will eventually produce up to 60 million items of jewelry per year, while also creating 7,000 local jobs, it added.

The facility will support the company’s production of platinum-plated jewelry as Pandora widens its use of different materials and develops new designs. It will operate entirely on renewable electricity and incorporate energy- and water-efficiency measures. It will also use 100% recycled silver and gold, the company added.

“With the opening of our Vietnam facility, we begin an important new chapter for Pandora,” said CEO Berta de Pablos-Barbier. “We are building on decades of exceptional craftsmanship in Thailand, bringing that expertise together with new talent and capabilities in Vietnam. This investment gives us the capacity, flexibility and innovation to support our future growth while continuing to deliver the craftsmanship excellence Pandora is known for to millions of people around the world.”

The company will provide specialized training through its crafting academy, with a focus on production skills and career development. The program will also facilitate knowledge-sharing between the company’s teams in Thailand and Vietnam, it said.

The October 1 inaugural ceremony took place in the presence of Pandora leaders, Vietnamese authorities and the Danish ambassador to Vietnam.
