RAPAPORT… An ivory, horn, enamel and diamond comb by Lalique fetched EUR 738,500 ($836,375) at a recent Paris auction, a record for any jewel by the designer that Sotheby’s has sold.
The piece, which garnered the highest total at the dedicated sale of 39 Lalique items from a private collector, sold within its estimate at the December 17 auction, Sotheby’s said Wednesday. In total, the event achieved EUR 1.7 million ($1.9 million).
Other notable items included a glass, enamel and diamond tiara featuring pansies, which achieved EUR 163,800 ($185,495), and a leather, enamel, glass and citrine collar, which went for EUR 138,600 ($156,966). Both were within their presale valuations. An enamel and diamond butterfly clip beat its upper estimate, selling for EUR 126,000 ($142, 706), as did an enamel and gold pendant necklace, which realized EUR 88,200 ($99,904).
Meanwhile, a cup and saucer set by the famed designer fetched EUR 44,100 ($49,955), more than seven times its high estimate.
Sotheby’s sold 35 of the 39 items up for offer at the auction.
