John Moran Auctioneers has hired two industry veterans to head up its jewelry and watch department.
Tom Burstein, who will be the division’s director, previously held senior positions at top auction houses including Christie’s, Sotheby’s and Phillips, John Moran said Monday. Burstein was also vice president of Harry Winston’s US retail business and managed the Winston heritage division. He has been involved in several high-profile sales during his career, including the collections of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Elizabeth Taylor, and President Ronald and Nancy Reagan.
Meanwhile, Peggy Gottlieb will take on the role of senior specialist. Prior to accepting the position at John Moran, she held high-level jobs at Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Heritage Auctions. She was also a staff gemologist for the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Gem Trade Laboratory, and has worked as an independent appraiser and dealer, John Moran said.
