Jewelry brand John Hardy has appointed Frédéric Levy as chief executive officer to succeed Kareem Gahed, who has served in the position since 2019.

John Hardy specializes in artisan jewelry created through traditional craftsmanship in Bali, Indonesia, where the company is headquartered.

Levy is a luxury-goods and retail executive with more than 20 years of global leadership experience building e-commerce businesses and developing digital and marketing strategies for companies in a variety of categories. He most recently served as president of the international business unit of Alpargatas Group, a Brazilian footwears and canvas firm, where he managed the group’s flip-flop brand, Havaianas.

From 2015 to 2020, Levy served as president and CEO at Coravin, which manufactures wine preservation systems and accessories. Prior to Coravin, Levy served as president of Nespresso USA for nine years.

Levy is John Hardy’s third CEO since private equity firm L Catterton Partners — formerly Catterton Partners — bought the business in 2014.

“L Catterton believes there is significant opportunity for the John Hardy brand globally, and we are confident that Fred is the right leader to guide the company through its next phase of growth while staying true to the distinctive heritage that sets the company apart,” said J. Michael Chu, L Catterton’s global co-CEO and chairman of John Hardy’s board of directors.
