Jadeite, Ruby and Diamond Necklace Takes First Place at Poly Auction

A jadeite, ruby and diamond necklace grabbed the spotlight at Poly Auction’s recent Hong Kong jewelry sale, selling for HKD 36 million ($4.6 million).

The necklace contains 43 jadeite beads connected by a ruby and circular-cut diamond clasp. It missed its HKD 40 million ($5.2 million) low presale estimate at the Magnificent Jewels sale on May 1, according to the auction house’s website.

Items from private collectors and jadeite and colored gemstones were also popular at the sale. In total, the auction garnered HKD 45.7 million ($5.9 million).

Here are some of the top sellers:

Pair of diamond earrings at Poly Auction image — A private collector sold these diamond earrings for HKD 2 million ($255,481) within estimates. The pair contains a pear-shaped 5.18-carat, D-color, VVS1-clarity diamond and a 5.07-carat, D-color, VVS2-clarity stone, each suspended from square-shaped yellow diamonds and a pear-shaped diamond.

Necklace featuring a pear-shaped, diamond, suspended from three circular-cut diamonds at Poly Auction image — A necklace sporting a pear-shaped, 16.58-carat, fancy-yellow, VS1-clarity diamond, suspended from three circular-cut diamonds, surpassed its HKD 800,000 ($103,225) high estimate to go for HKD 1 million ($131,611). The piece belonged to a private collection.

Earrings featuring two brilliant-cut round diamonds on each earring at Poly Auction image — These earrings from a private collection brought in HKD 480,000 ($61,937), within their presale price. They feature two brilliant-cut round diamonds on each earring. The two larger stones were 8.05 and 6.94 carats, S to T color, with VVS1-clarity, while the top diamonds weighed 5.16 and 5.55 carats, O to P in color, VVS2 and VS2 clarity, respectively.
