Luxus, a platform that sells investments in jewelry and other valuable products, is now offering shares in a 5-carat diamond via a partnership with US jeweler Kwiat.
The launch is Luxus’s third public offering of an asset, it said Tuesday. This stone is a round brilliant-cut, D-flawless diamond with “excellent” polish and symmetry and carries a market capitalization of $400,000, the company added. Cut and polished by Kwiat, it is available for premarketing at $250 per share.
Luxus, which hedge-fund executive Dana Auslander founded last year, allows the public to buy fractions of gems and other precious items through a holding company that owns the assets. The platform retains a 10% stake in each product, with the goods remaining in a secure vault. The International Gemological Institute (IGI) and the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) valuate and authenticate the stones, while an internal advisory board at Luxus signs off on valuations before all launches.
The first launch, also known as an initial public offering (IPO), was of a pink diamond from the Argyle mine. The second, later in 2022, was the Golden Dahlia, a 11.74-carat, fancy-vivid-yellow, VVS1-clarity diamond in a platinum ring featuring colorless tapered baguettes, which it valued at $1.5 million and offered for $300 per share.
The third asset, the 5-carat diamond, is also the first in a new “Flawless Collection,” Luxus said. It comes from a type IIa rough that Lucara Diamond Corp. extracted at its Karowe mine in Botswana. Kwiat cut and polished it in Antwerp.
“Over the past three years, large, investment-grade diamonds of flawless clarity have significantly outperformed the [S&P 500 index] and gold, demonstrating their value as an inflation hedge,” said Auslander. “Diamonds like the Kwiat-Luxus round brilliant are incredibly scarce, especially in this challenging geopolitical environment.”
