Keith Leclerc, founder of International Diamond Center (IDC), died unexpectedly on December 18 at the age of 71.

Leclerc’s background in precious metals and jewelry manufacturing, along with decades in the wholesale trade, gave him a rare, well-rounded expertise in diamonds, gemstones, precious metals, and market cycles — enabling him to navigate any economic climate and often foresee shifts in the market, Brian Stamey, vice president of retail sales operations at IDC, and Leclerc’s son-in-law, said Tuesday. Leclerc established the IDC in 1981 as a jewelry wholesaler. For decades the company bought rough diamonds directly from the mines, cut them in-house, and distributed the finished stones to more than 500 jewelry stores across the US.

Leclerc’s business expanded to more than 10 showrooms in Savannah, Georgia, and in Florida. The company offered to cut out the middleman and give the public direct access to the same selection, value, and quality that were once exclusive to jewelry store owners. Every decision was rooted in doing what was right, building lasting trust with customers, partners, and employees over decades, Stamey added.

“Keith was a true master of his craft, admired for his skill, dedication, and integrity,” said Jeff Loots of Henri Daussi, a supplier to IDC. “Even more important, he was a loving family man whose pride and joy were those closest to him. He was a dear friend to me, and his kindness, loyalty, and presence will be missed more than words can express.”

Leclerc is survived by his wife Peggy, three children and grandchildren.

“Beyond the company itself, Keith created a business grounded in family,” Stamey shared. “His son Brian, daughter Ashley, and sons-in-law Chad and I will continue to guide IDC into the future with the same mindset, discipline, and values that Keith instilled in all of them.”
