India and China Labs Cooperate

RAPAPORT… Two major gemological institutions in India and China have
agreed to increase their collaboration in an effort to strengthen trade between
the two markets.



China’s state-run National Gem Testing Center (NGTC) has
signed a letter of cooperation with the Mumbai-based Gemmological Institute of
India (GII), the organizations reported this month. The agreement will enable
the groups to exchange gemological expertise, including standards for grading
gems and jewelry, the Indian laboratory explained.


“The close collaboration can help both NGTC and GII
strengthen and enhance [the] gem-and-jewelry trade between China and India,”
GII added.
