Sales of hard-luxury goods in Hong Kong rose further in September, with Mid-Autumn Festival-related purchases boosting growth.

Revenue from jewelry, watches, clocks and valuable gifts climbed 20% year on year to HKD 4.71 billion ($599.8 million) for the month, the municipality’s Census and Statistics Department reported Tuesday. Sales across all retail categories increased 6% to HKD 33.36 billion ($4.25 billion).

Retail sales continued to improve, marking a 17th consecutive month of gains, with growth recorded across a wide range of categories, reflecting generally solid domestic consumption, a government spokesperson said.

“A pickup in visitor arrivals and sales of festive items associated with the earlier arrival of Mid-Autumn Festival this year also contributed to growth in overall sales in the month,” the spokesperson commented. “Meanwhile, online retail sales value rose further visibly alongside consumers’ growing use of digital channels.”

From January to September, revenue from hard-luxury products jumped 22% to HKD 45.82 billion ($5.84 billion), while sales across all retail categories rose 8% to HKD 299.45 billion ($38.17 billion).
