The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has appointed Pritesh Patel as its president and CEO, to succeed longtime chief Susan Jacques, who is retiring.
Patel joined the institute in 2015 as chief information officer, becoming chief operating officer two years later, it said last week. In his current role, he has been responsible for operational strategy, planning, developing and implementing innovative solutions.
Jacques who has been governor and board chair for three decades, will be stepping down as president and CEO after 12 years. During her tenure, she worked on GIA’s extensive research programs, industry-leading education initiatives and other services.
Patel will take over from Jacques on August 4, after which she will remain with the GIA as strategic adviser until her retirement at the end of the year.
“[Patel’s] outstanding experience, character and understanding of the industry and the institute are exceptionally well-suited to build upon GIA’s nearly 100 years of service to the industry and consumers, leading GIA to even greater successes,” said GIA board chair Lisa Locklear. “The board of governors, GIA’s global teams, the gem and jewelry industry, and consumers owe great thanks to Jacques. Her compassionate, visionary and unwavering leadership…leaves GIA well-positioned to meet the opportunities and challenges of today and those that will come in the future.”
