GCAL by Sarine has expanded its proprietary cut grade to include cushion diamonds.

The new 8X Cushion Cut Grade brings more consistency, transparency and performance analysis to fancy-shaped diamond grading, the company said last week. Fancy-shaped diamonds account for a significant and growing proportion of GCAL by Sarine submissions, thanks to rising consumer demand for elongated shapes.

Traditional grading for fancy-shaped diamonds has largely centered on polish and symmetry, providing limited details on light performance, visual appeal, and cut quality. GCAL’s 8X Cut Grade measures eight key attributes such as brilliance, fire, scintillation, optical symmetry, and shape aesthetics, it added.

“Cushion cuts have tremendous consumer appeal, but they have also been one of the most difficult fancy shapes for retailers and consumers to compare confidently,” said GCAL by Sarine president Angelo Palmieri. “The GCAL 8X Cushion Cut Grade gives the market a precise, transparent, and independently verified way to identify cushion diamonds that truly perform at the highest level.”

The 8X Cushion Cut Grade is a new addition to the 8X Ultimate Cut Grade program, which includes oval, princess, pear, marquise and radiant shapes.
