Prices of fancy-color diamonds edged down 1% in 2025, a minimal shift that reflects stability, according to the Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF).

Yellow fancy-color stones recorded the largest full-year decline, slipping 1.9%, the FRCF said last week. In the fourth quarter, the color slid 0.2% versus the previous three months, grabbing three places on the top-sliders list for the period. Fancy-intense-yellow diamonds weighing 1 and 1.5 carats each rose 1.1% during the three months, while 8-carat fancy-intense yellows and 1.5-carat fancy-vivid yellows also saw modest growth. Fancy yellows weighing 3 carats dropped 2.5%, and 5-carat fancy-vivid yellows declined 2%. Consistent with previous quarters, the feedback from the market showed continued selective demand, with saturation, rarity and size influencing prices.

Blues fell 0.7% during the year and advanced 0.3% in the last three months, the only color to record an increase. Blues also constituted three of the top-five-climbers list for the fourth quarter. Leading the color were 8-carat, fancy-vivid-blue diamonds, with a 2.1% rise, followed by 10- and 5-carat fancy vivids. with 1.4% and 1.2% growth, respectively. Fancy-intense blues showed declines, as 10-carat stones fell 1.3%, followed by 5- and 8-carat diamonds of the same hue.

Meanwhile, prices for pink fancy-colored stones also slipped 0.7% for the year and 0.2% in the fourth quarter. Nonetheless, prices were mixed, with strong performances from 2-carat fancy-intense pinks, which improved 1.3%, and 1-carat fancy-vivid pinks, which rose 0.8%. Several of the 10-carat varieties also saw gains. However, prices of 1.5-carat, fancy-intense stones were down 2%, while 1- and 5-carat fancy-intense pinks saw drops.

“As a manufacturer active in both colorless and color diamonds, we experience daily price movement as part of the business,” said Dhruval Dholakia, head of operations and resources at Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK). “The unchanged levels in fancy-color diamonds highlight a different discipline. This is a segment where inventory can be built deliberately, without pressure from short-term price noise.”

Since the FCRF began collecting data in 2005, pink diamonds have advanced 391%, blue diamonds have grown 242% and yellows have gained 47%, it said.
