Bonhams brought in $6.2 million at its most recent jewelry auction as a bevy of pieces fetched prices far above expectations.
The top seller at the December 5 New York Jewels auction was a pear-shaped, 13.70-carat, D-color, VVS2-clarity diamond, which sold for $718,575, within its presale estimate of $600,000 to $800,000. Five other diamond pieces completed the top six, all faring better than Bonhams had predicted. Some 77% of lots found buyers, or 95% by value, Bonhams said Tuesday.
“Large white diamonds and fine colored stones alongside signed period jewelry continue to be what our global buyers are searching for,” said Caroline Morrissey, jewelry director at Bonhams New York.
