California-based lab-grown brand Diamond Foundry has acquired Augsburg Diamond Technology (Audiatec), a German producer of single-crystal synthetic diamonds.

Audiatec, based in the Bavarian city of Augsburg, creates diamonds through chemical vapor deposition (CVD). Founded in 2015 by scientists at the University of Augsburg, the company can produce diamond material on disks up to 100 millimeters in diameter, according to a statement last week by WTS Advisory, which counseled Audiatec on the deal. The pieces’ size and single-crystal nature make them potentially important for gem and industrial applications.

“Through the acquisition of Audiatec, Diamond Foundry has taken over the technologically leading producer of synthetic, single-crystal diamond in wafer sizes,” WTS said.

The parties did not disclose financial details. The investment will help expand Audiatec’s technological capabilities while maintaining Augsburg as the business’s geographical base, WTS added.
