De Beers Jwaneng 28.88 Leads Sotheby’s Hong Kong to $33M

An unmounted diamond from De Beers, called the Jwaneng 28.88, was one of the top-selling items at the most recent jewelry sale at Sotheby’s in Hong Kong, bringing in HKD 21 million ($2.7 million).

The round, 28.88-carat, D-flawless diamond, which hails from the miner’s Jwaneng deposit in Botswana, starred in the April 23 High Jewelry auction. The final sale price fell within its presale estimates.

In total, the auction brought in HKD 256.9 million ($32.8 million), with 178 lots on offer. Those included pieces from well-known design houses, including Harry Winston, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Ronald Abram.
