A pair of sapphire and diamond earrings fetched CHF 304,800 ($385,586) at the most recent jewelry auction at Christie’s Geneva, raking in more than six times its high estimate.
The jewels are designed as opposites: One features an oval-shaped Ceylon sapphire, suspended from diamonds attached to a purple-pink sapphire, while the other carries an oval pink sapphire, hanging from diamonds and connected to a briolette-cut Ceylon sapphire. They beat their CHF 45,000 ($56,926) top price at the May 19 Jewels Online Auction, according to the Christie’s website.
In total, the sale of over 300 lots garnered CHF 14.4 million ($18.2 million), with many pieces far outstripping their asking prices. Items from a number of well-known designers, such as David Webb, Cartier and Bulgari, also found buyers.
