A 126.76-carat diamond will go under the hammer at the upcoming Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction in New York, with a price estimate of up to $15 million.
The pear brilliant-cut, D-color, internally flawless stone, known as the Light of Peace Diamond, will appear without a reserve price at the June 7 sale, Christie’s said Monday.
The diamond was previously the property of the Zale Corporation, which called it the Zale Light of Peace Diamond. The Zale family arranged showings of the diamond and used income from the ticket sales to establish a fund for peace-supporting missions, Christie’s noted. In a nod to the charitable efforts of the Zale family, the diamond’s current owners will donate a portion of its proceeds to the USA for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.
