A Van Cleef & Arpels ruby ring was the top seller at a recent online jewelry sale at Christie’s Paris, fetching EUR 2.4 million ($2.8 million).
The ring features an oval, 6.27-carat Burmese ruby between two half-moon diamonds. It smashed its EUR 500,000 ($585,985) high estimate at the June 27 Joaillerie Paris sale, according to the auction house’s website.
In total, the auction brought in EUR 16.7 million ($19.6 million). Nine of the top 10 pieces sold for several times their high asking prices. Christie’s offered a range of jewels from famous design houses, including Boucheron, Chaumet and Cartier.
