Christie’s Paris Auction Rakes In over $19M

A Van Cleef & Arpels ruby ring was the top seller at a recent online jewelry sale at Christie’s Paris, fetching EUR 2.4 million ($2.8 million). 

The ring features an oval, 6.27-carat Burmese ruby between two half-moon diamonds. It smashed its EUR 500,000 ($585,985) high estimate at the June 27 Joaillerie Paris sale, according to the auction house’s website. 

In total, the auction brought in EUR 16.7 million ($19.6 million). Nine of the top 10 pieces sold for several times their high asking prices. Christie’s offered a range of jewels from famous design houses, including Boucheron, Chaumet and Cartier.

Chaumet necklace featuring three strands comprising 191 natural pearls and a clasp bearing diamonds at Christie's image
A Chaumet necklace features three strands comprising 191 natural pearls and a clasp bearing a total of 0.80 carats of diamonds. It exceeded its EUR 600,000 ($703,167) upper estimate to go under the hammer for EUR 1.6 million ($1.8 million).

This ring scored EUR 869,400 ($1 million), more than doubling its EUR 400,000 ($468,778) high price. It bears an antique cushion brilliant step-cut, 7.76-carat Kashmir sapphire.

Christie’s sold this necklace featuring 41 natural pearls for EUR 504,000 ($590,661), over 16 times its EUR 30,000 ($35,158) upper estimate.

This pair of Boucheron earrings contains cushion and round brilliant diamonds, suspending an 8.29-carat, fancy-intense-yellow, VVS2 diamond and an 8.09-carat, fancy-intense-yellow, VS1, with approximately 18 carats of colored diamonds and around 4.9 carats of white diamonds. It realized EUR 441,000 ($516,828), within its presale estimate.

Also from Boucheron, these earrings fetched EUR 365,400 ($428,229), sailing past their EUR 60,000 ($70,317) presale price.  They sport octagonal step-cut, 4.70-carat and 3.46-carat Colombian emeralds, with round and marquise diamonds.

This ring, another Boucheron piece, features an octagonal step-cut, 7.30-carat Colombian emerald between triangular diamonds. It went for EUR 365,400 ($428,229), demolishing its EUR 60,000 ($70,317) high price.

A Boucheron necklace and earrings set achieved EUR 327,600 ($383,929), beating its EUR 200,000 ($234,389) upper estimate. The pieces contain around 53 carats of oval Burmese rubies and approximately 78 carats of pear and round brilliant diamonds.

This octagonal step-cut, 13.47-carat Ceylon sapphire with tapered-baguette diamonds made EUR 327,600 ($383,929), above its EUR 100,000 ($117,195) upper price tag.
