Christie’s London Sale Brings in Nearly $9M

Christie's Bulgari ruby and diamond ring

A ruby and diamond ring by Bulgari was the top seller at a recent Christie’s jewelry sale, fetching more than four times its high estimate.

The piece, which contains a cushion-shaped, 12.38-carat Burmese ruby center stone with circular- and baguette-cut diamonds along the band, sold for GBP 1.6 million ($2 million) at the Jewels Online: The London Edit auction. The piece had a presale price range of GBP 250,000 to GBP 350,000 ($316,841 to $443,578). In total, the event, which ran from November 14 to 28, raked in GBP 6.9 million ($8.8 million).

The auction also saw several top items beat their upper price tags. Christie’s offered jewels from top design houses, including Chopard, Graff, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Harry Winston.

Here are the rest of the top five items:

This Boucheron ring features an octagonal step-cut, 12.39-carat Colombian emerald, with trilliant diamond brackets. Created in the 1980s, it garnered GBP 1.1 million ($1.4 million), more than three times its GBP 350,000 ($443,578) high estimate.
A marquise brilliant-cut, 10.13-carat, D-color, internally flawless, type IIa diamond ring by Chopard went for GBP 378,000 ($478,710), missing its GBP 400,000 ($506,554) lower presale price.
Christie’s sold this Chopard diamond earring, necklace and bracelet set for GBP 201,600 ($255,244), just above its GBP 200,000 ($253,218) low estimate.
This marquise brilliant-cut, 8.76-carat, H-color, VVS1-clarity diamond ring fetched GBP 189,000 ($239,250), exceeding its GBP 150,000 ($189,881) high estimate.
